A thin candle-like tube made of organic cotton imbued in honey, chamomile, sage, St. John’s Wort and vitamin A is gently inserted in the ear hole, held in place by the therapist. It burns for approx 10 minutes and is repeated in both ears. The Hopi people from the American plains used these local ingredients, which they would have found where they lived, and still live today.
When the ‘candle’ is properly plugged into the ear hole, it causes a light suction action and vibration of air, that creates a massage-like effect in the eardrum. This induces a pleasant feeling of warmth and a balance of pressure in ears, forehead and sinuses. Many ENT related conditions can benefit from this therapy, including snoring.
A local massage to face, scalp and neck enhances the benefits of this treatment.
‘Reading’ the remains of the candles is an interesting part of the therapy.
